Thanks for that, I always forget to grab the source instead of just the link.

(it took nearly 30 minutes to upload this low rez one)

Not to mention, I don't even have the textures at that size, except the normal.
And the background is the low rez version for free I could get online. The 21k version is ~25 dollars and I don't have that for buying textures.

Just tested 1 frame @ 3840 x 2160
It took 4 minutes 20 seconds and was 23mb.
So, no promises on that one.

(but damn it does look good, even for an older/lower poly model)

"(but damn it does look good, even for an older/lower poly model)"

DOF (as I tested it awhile back) takes far longer.
I'm doing a 100 frame test right now (total is 400) in 4k, just to see what it would look like generally.
37 hrs is the projected time for all 400, so roughly 9.5 hours or so, given minor time changes as it progresses. I was hoping someone on here might actually have the high rez background and would offer it for testing purposes. Guess not...

Thanks, Nik.
Rendering is up to frame 172. Here's the 1st frame of the 4k render.

I have yet to figure out how to get either GI mental ray OR Quicksilver AND low rez models w/normal maps to render right with bounce light (likely have to translate the tangent space map to local or some crap) but sadly the 4k renders are just normal scanline. Until I can figure all that out, this is the best I know how to make this thing look. Maybe soon.

Up to frame 261.
I got no idea how to go about the rest of this process, size-logistics wise.
I tried bringing the 640x480 400 frame (.bmp) sequence into movie maker, and there was no option for that size which was less than around 40mb, going up to 2gb.

This 4k render tho.......1 frame .bmp is 23mb. >:0

Hmm. Movie Maker is not an option for me to compile the images into a single movie file. It only goes up to 1440. Not sure what to use, now.
Actually, I've downloaded and am now tinkering with VirtualDub.
It allows easy creation of big rez movies, etc.

Finished the 4k render. (an interesting experiment, really. Found new programs, learned a bit)

Used video post to convert images from .bmp into .jpg with lowest compression. Files went from 23 mb to ~3.2 mb each. Got the images comped into a 24 frame a second avi in VirtualDub, and uploading now.

Give me about a week and it should be done uploading. :P
