3ds Max and the Threadripper
show user profile  soontekk
Ijzerman, i am building one right now as well.
I have a lot of remarks about yours if you let me.
I would split mem in 4 banks, i would go asus zenith instead of msi
Is that an m2 ssd if not i would rethink that
At least a 1000watt psu to be on the safe side 750 is too close to the actual component power needs
Asus gtx card and not overclocked (get 2 lower ones and more mem or so)
Cooling system for such a high end chip seems too weak as well, get the one with 3 coolers, not sure which one i need yet (watch out, not all of them are supported!).
Lastly the case, there are nice bigger ones (better airflow), i'm getting the corsair carbide air
And €60 for assembly.. do it yourself so you know it's been done right and with care, you will also learn a thing or 2
Damn, the only thing i agree with is the chip itself :D sorry

Question: Who builds a good PC for you from piece parts? Newegg? I don't think I have the dexerity and sill to assemble a PC. Last time I tried, it never worked!

Thanks,

ijzerman that Armor graphics card has the cheapest and flimsiest heat sink.

ScotlandDave of course you can use Nvidia GPUs on AMD boards.

@Sangre, thanks for letting me know.
For now we ordered the system with some changes as soontekk suggested and skipped the gpu.
We have a decent 1070 from msi for it and upgrade later to something a bit better when needed :)

@Soontekk, sure thing, hope it gets here next week.
Have you noticed the vray benchmark thingy?
clickkkkkk
Based on this benchmark its about as fast as our primary workstations(dual 12 core xeons(2650v4) 48 buckets@2.5 ghz)) but all in a single socket and little over half the price.

Indeed, intel will get slapped around a little bit and they deserve it imho.

How much did the total cost of the build run you? Also, what time did you get on the benchmark test?

I'm number 14 on the leader board.
