No defense of autodesk here, but I'll say that I found Arnold to be a great render engine on a recent project. Mental Ray is dated and was only clinging to life through AD integration. Time for it to die.

I am using 3ds max only because of the redshift renders integration. I'm also sticking to my 2013 version because I refuse to rent my software.

With that said, Modo is my go-to package. vray is now available for it so that helps. I mostly do product renders with an occasional interior render, so my usage of animation is very light.

but you never know... one of these days they my put in an egg primitive instead of just the spline. At that point I may gladly hand over more money for that update!
