Bolts is trying to leave the VFX industry...
show user profile  Bolteon
For a long while, I've grown tired of helping others achieve their dreams... I can't stand it anymore. I find myself being harsher and harsher with clients and not having the enthusiasm I used to carry while producing those pretty pictures that turned into a full on part of my life.

So I'm trying to get out of it in a professional sense.

What does make me swoon these days is the new challenges of product prototyping and bringing ideas to market.

It's been a crazy year; moved a couple times, got married (once thankfully), and pushed really hard on this little thing:

Our Kickstarter just went live earlier today, we're pushing hard on getting some press coverage about this- so every little bit counts and I'm ready/able/willing to turn this into a big fucking thing.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/bolteon/meet-bmmpr-the-smart-solution-to-dumb-car-alarms

I owe this place more than I'll ever be able to pay back, so I hope you guys might support my wife and I as we move on to different lives.

MF forever.

P.S. It's not available overseas- yet.

Except Viper costs more, does less and has a monthly commitment. ;-)

Good luck with everything, Bolts. Thanks for sharing the knowledge, the laughs, the rants, the hangovers and all. You'll do more than fine.

Cheers,

Manolo

to get out of VFX... that's been the dream of many VFX artists.

Wish ya luck :)

That's actually a pretty good idea, it will sell like hotcakes in Asia. I swear I'd be sitting at home every second or third day to the wonderful music of a fucking car alarm going off... for the entire day.

If you could also include the ability to view your car's cameras, or link it to the car's GPS to track if it's stationary or not, then be able to remotely turn off that alarm, it would be an absolute godsend.

P.S. Work on your noise reduction for the audio, whenever that chick speaks you can hear a hiss.

This kickstarter seems to have an edge over common vehicle trackers...interesting...

--- Vehicle Trackers ---

bmmpr has a slight negative association with 'car accident' or 'too late' for me as it sounds a bit like 'bumper' or 'bummer'. But it is nice and catchy...probably just me being negative.

Good luck with the Bumpr thing.
If you watch the commercial without sound, it has nothing to do with cars.. Had to find my headset to find out what everyone was talking about.. =)

I gotta say regarding prototyping though.. I used to be an RPT tech for a couple of years, working with SLA and Objet machines. At first the tech was amazing and it was interesting being part of the whole design and production process for major companies.. After a while, preparing STL files, creating support for SLA and post work on parts becomes boring as hell though.

Still very keen on getting a little 3d printer for myself though.. Even though the modern home printers are kinda shit, compared with what I used to work with.

Terribly boring signature.

Good luck with the transition. I was wondering if you had an ulterior motive when you bought that other then being able to cut out action figures.

On a side note, a few years ago, i had an idea for something similar. It never got past the "scribble the ideas on a note pad" phase, but i did have several ideas for it. We might need to talk about it at some point.

Meh. Weak.

Notify me when you've decided to create the MaxForums Institute of Teledildonics and Virtual Whale Simulators...

But really, best of luck in your endeavours! Looks like an interesting idea you've got going there
