Not really happy with the way the wrapped copper wire turned out. Definitely need help cleaning the mesh up. Here it is so far:

you should keep the posts together to keep the forum clean. Just reply to the last one.

Anyways....
looking at your compaired to the picture, you need to adjust the wires. they shouldn't be completely flat. they should be bowed upward in the middle. and they should bow outwards toward the outside and inside giving it more of an overpacked effect. right now it looks more like a wire rectangle sitting on something. you want to give more of a wrapping effect.

& the wires look way to thick.

It looks pretty good for a WIP.

The wires seem to have sharper corners than the ones in the picture. The rest looks good.

On the actual fan motor Im modelling, the individual strands are .05mm, the ones in the picture I provided are more like 1mm. I'm REALLY struggling with them for srome reason. I'll re-visit them after I finish cleaning up the mesh.

i would also bet that if you took apart the motor, the part that the wire sits on is probably not a rectangle. it's probably an oval. and regardless, i would make the wires more of an oval then a rectangle.

Nah its a rectangle. I sacrificed a couple of old brush-less fans I had sitting around, and I've completely dissected one, and kept the other one whole for reference. There is a top and bottom plastic piece with square edges, and metal plates between with flat edges, and the wires are wrapped around that.

Grotey, you think you could share some of the mat settings for that copper material?

It's just the standard A&D metal material set to copper, studio hdri in the envr slot, two spots, skylight and a bit of minor contract tweaking in PS (including a slightly yellowy glow)

Your model is foursided while the reference photo is six-sided.
Was this intended?

The ref photo is not of the motor I am making, it was just a reference to show you guys what I meant by "coiled up wire".

The actual motor Im making is from a 120mmx25mm computer case fan, and is MUCH less hefty than that example. Its just a little 12v DC brushless motor.
