i dont use the de-noiser that much anymore with it. I find it can ruin details buy smoothing them out.

I tend to drop its settings to 0.2 and 0.5

Then render a beauty pass with no denoiser.

You can then blend in denoiser to any required area in PS.

My only issue is progressive rendering. Plays havoc with work regimes of traditional ways. Finding sweet spots and waiting for good AA is a pain. An unknown quantity. I miss this from the usual, where you knew exactly what/why/where/when.

Just a new way of getting used to working i suppose

you are right STRAT denoiser is magic. what settings are you using?

We are getting 6000px renders out with denoise 0.65 about 100 passes. Its plenty, looks sharp as. With DR on with 4 machines it takes 1 hour.

I actually prefer the progressive now, as I find its useful for just that - short deadlines. I just cut the render short after 10 passes and send it over for feedback. I find my workflow has changed a bit - not so fussed with having it 100% before showing client - i even skip post til final - the tonemapping is brilliant. Cant wait for 1.6

Hi James

Couldnt really give you any settings yet, as days are early and im learning. I havent yet any experience to share settings.
But i'm all ears. I will try your settings. And any other tips please spill'th beans!

Im yet to test flicker free anim. Does it work? Is it easy? What kind of aa settings/render times for HD anim rendering? At least vray was uber fast in this respect.

(Edit - tried your 100pass limit @ .65 denoise - perfik! Very nice. 5000px took 1hr 45 min on my single machine. Well within equivalent vray times)

I flippin love corona!

I use it at work now for a couple of years and because I don't have to spend ages tweaking the various settings necessary with mental ray and vray, it means that time is spent way more productively. The interactive view is so useful.

This was an interesting watch from the chaps at the Boundary. If these guys are pro corona then that's all the reassurance I need that I made the right decision.

But what about animations?

What about rendering speed?

I mean Corona is an unbiased renderer meaning it has to be WAY SLOWER then cheating VRAY.

I'm on the hunt for a GPU renderer, like Corona or Redshift. I'd be curious to see how those stack up against one another.

at 2k res 75passses 0.65 denoise each frame takes about 1 hour or less depending on your specs.

no setup required, type in frame range hit enter - done - for the few tests Ive done ive had no flickers or no wierd issues.

if you really have that vray itch you can shoot uself in the face and setup a light cache - more rendering speed, more headache

im doing a full production animation with corona, cars, people etc over the next 3 months - I can post the results if you are interested
