Importing DWG to Max...mesh resolution?
show user profile  FX
I'm trying to import a DWG into max but the resulting file is huge, offenders are mainly pipes and railings:

1.7 million just for the railings and there are lots of them.

How can I tell Max what interpolation to use for the railings when importing ?

...or does this need to be set in Autocad before exporting to DWG...if so ...how do I do that ?

muchus grassy arse.

Hmm, cheers don, now I am confused, that's the only setting I thought would have an effect but did nothing for me, I was hammering the import for a few hours ranting cursing & trying all kinds of alternatives.
The only way I could get the high res was by importing at a huge scale and ignoring all the warnings...I must have been doing something wrong ;)

Turns out I do need the high res one for some close up renders, I'll give this it another go later.

Ok, I think I figured out whats going on, if I uncheck rescale it imports with the curve info, but it comes in huge.

If I rescale to the correct size it comes in with no curves, any idea why ?

...you know what...fuck this for a lark I can remodel it quicker.

2 fucking autodesk products one talks Greek the other talks fucking klingon!

Fjuckign dick knob bastards.

DWG is a 2D CAD drawing, correct? If it's a 3D model and I can get it into Solidworks on my end, I can poop out a more optimized FBX for you at a different resolution.

Let me know if you'd like me to do that. If it's a 2D drawing, then B=======D

Nah dude, I'm cool now thanks to the suggestion of SW ;)

...saved it out as IGS and converted to FBX in DE...mesh is perfect for close ups.

...if at first you don't succeed, rant like a motherfucker in MF and the answer is always forthcoming :D.

cheers.
