James Rhodes: Warmachine

Hey everyone. I am a beginning modeler and as my project Ive decided to tackle Warmachine from the Iron Man series. I'm using 3ds and I am modelling it from Iron man's Mark II Armor. I'm posting as to show progress and to get help on a number of issues that i keep running into.

1. I'm trying to figure out a way to have the model be smoothed yet to have some hard edges along the rim of the mask. If you've seen the helmet then you know that its metal and has some crisp 90 degree corners. What would be the best way to work that.

2. How would I go about creating a reflexive black and reflexive silver material as well as a glowing light material for the eyes.

Thanks everyone so far. The wire image let me see a few flaws in topography which i began to fix immediately. here are four wire image shots I took.

When i copy paste the image url into a browser window, i get a "sign-in" screen. Thats probably why it doesn't work.

Maybe just post a link to the picasa album?

I had plans to build an actual suit out so i had collected alot of reference images for the helmet to start. I googled the helmet of the mark II. If I want to make it movie accurate I have to go in and do small modifications to the helmet sides. and then take my body images and hand draw references that line up. You want a link to the image? Question. Im working on some areas on multiple peices and Im wondering about overlapping geometry.

If youll look and the pics youll see im modelling in pieces that are flat. I want to create an internal object that i can bring the edges into.so is it best to do opposed to attaching all the peices bridging the gaps and extrude these edges inward? "I hear everything. Yeah it looks like it would be a fun project to work on in my spare time, I'd really appreciate the references. It's looking really good btw, hope I can make one that good.

Soon I'm going to be moving toward the warmachine armor differences, but sure. Ill look for a link to the sculpture. Im gonna start working with some of the comic book art and still from IM2

Work So Far. Moving onto creating an internal structure for the peices to intersect.






I also did a small practice render... Its not the best, just some simple colors and a few lights. Im still looking into making some good black and silver metal surface materials.
