Living Room
show user profile  roccodiablo
Hi all

I've been modeling my living room at home whenever I get chance and it's nearing completion. I'm yet to put in speaker wire & cables from the TV etc.

I'd love to hear some crits if possible.
It's done using mental ray.

cheers
Paul

you mean stick in a different background image or is it the exposure that doesn't agree with you?

cheers

Bit of both i think mate. Over expose it more and get one that fits the perspective of the image.

As i said though, its a nice image mate.

I'll have a play around with that then. That isn't the view out of the window anyway. There just hasn't been a nice enough day recently to get a decent photo!

Thanks for comments, westcoast

Thanks ScotlandDave, the speakers are B&W's - they sound fantastic! (602 series 3 if you're interested....I can't recommend them enough)

I like it, looking good so far.

Few very minor things stand out to me:

1. The skirting boards seem very angular, maybe add a little chamfer. (Maybe the wall corner too above the skirt?)

2. The bottom of the fireplace seems flat. (It maybe like this in reel life thou, it just to me looks like it should be raised slighty?)

3. The cactus could do with a nicer texture.

4. The far cusionon the sofa seems very ridged, maybe let it slump into the sofa a bit more.

5. You could possiblly add some debris in the fire place too?

Great work never the less, looking forward to seeing progress

Thanks Rob

The skirting is pretty much like that but I agree - it looks a little bland

The wood and the conrete are the same height but there's a gap between them in real life. I see what you mean - I'll raise the concrete up a little I reckon.

The cactus - I definitely agree.

If I have time I'll change the cushion a bit.

I agree about the fireplace as well. My girlfriend told me do something with that and I ignored her (not because I didn't agree - because I was being lazy).

I'll post up when I change anything
thanks again

Here's an update.

Cactus texture improved.
Cushion slightly changed
Some ash in the fire place (which isn't that noticable actually)
Background changed

Thanks

Hey,
Looks very realistic to me and impressive. I am curious if you would be willing to share what light set up you are using for mental ray. I've read some tutorials about using Mr Sky portal in the window and removing the 4th fall and putting a free light in its place. Are you using the daylight system?
Also any tutorials relevant to the lighting you looked at would be very helpful to me. Thanks!

thanks Abrownbear

Yes, it's using the MR daylight sytem with a sky portal at the window. I can't remember specific tutorials I've done on it but I just googled 'mental ray daylight interior scene' (or something like that). There are quite a few.

thanks again & Good luck.

Very nice work, the only thing I can see is that the wood texture on the shelving unit seems HUUUGE!

thanks guys. I'll change the texture on the shelves and call it a day on this one.

I thought the records had covered up the large wood texture - I didn't notice it on the front of the shelves. Well spotted.

thanks again
Bye for now
