Mike's Interiors Thread
show user profile  mike_renouf
I've started up a little personal project and I since I'll be asking for help and opinions it seemed sensible to start a thread.

I found this site: http://www.galaxy-hotel.com/en/photo_gallery.html

with some great photos of classy hotel rooms and my aim is to produce a photo-real reconstruction of a suite.

Here's what I've modelled so far...

So the first challenge I'm struggling with is to create a convincing bunch of grapes to go on the plate on the coffee table.

 photo grapes.jpg

I created a reasonable model using splines for the stalks, converted them to editable poly and added grapes to the stalks with pflow. I can't get it to look any good sitting on the plate though because the grapes seem to intersect or to just sit in mid air. Any ideas how to settle the bunch onto the plate please?

I thought the first two were the renders and nearly called it quits.

But my hobby lives another day. Close call.

Fek for a second i thought those 2 images were rendered. Well you can do it, the updates look good lighting wise. Really. I look forward how this goes.

By the way nice references.

Heh. Sorry for giving a couple of you heart failure, I guess starting the thread with the reference pictures was a little unfair. At least I have your attention ;)

Thanks for the encouragement too. I'm quite enjoying this one.

Any ideas with the grapes?

West - I was about to fall thinking those were renders, which am sure can be done.

You must have mentioned References :
Could have worked well :P

For grapes, i don't know if you are like learning modeling as well. If not download some free ones. Better way :)

Update including some cloth simulations for the pillows. I'll probably re-do the long thin pillow because the bottom right corner looks dodgy

wouldn't bother with a fancy particle solution to place grapes - place them manually, or as girish says, just find an existing model.
saves reinventing the wheel unnecessarily.

Part of the reason for this project is to practice my modelling skills, so everything I do in this scene will be made by me. I agree that for a commercial project there's no point in spending hours on a building such things that can be found on turbosquid or such like, but this a good opportunity to test myself and to learn a few things in the process.

I used the particle system to distribute the grape geometry on the stalks - much easier than modelling by hand from scratch - You're probably right that the whole bunch can be adjusted manually to finish it off though, rather than trying to simulate the thing settling on the plate. Good to have a sanity check there, so thanks.

Update. Modelling is nearly complete. There's a chair to make, a stool that should go at the end of the bed, light fittings to the ceiling, a laptop to add to the desk and some features to pop into the bathroom just to catch the eye in the second view. I'm going to have a nightmare with making a shader for the net curtain, I can see it coming...

lovely work Mike. Love how this is coming together.

The bed covers look a little rigid at the min, and the pillows a little wobberly. Other than that no real crits.

Look forward to seeing this one progress

The modeling needs to be much cleaner.

Don't loose the brightness in the scene & keep the environment blue color.

Going good.
