New GPU & cuda 7.5 drivers for Max
show user profile  Spear Chuck
I just installed a EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6 gig GPU. I used NVIDIA Control Panel to set the cuda 7.5 drivers to recognize 'Use Global settings (All) GPUs' for After Effects CC and Premiere CC. I then changed CPU to GPU in properties > Display in AF, to Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration in Project settings for Premiere Pro CC. They both play clips in preview playback at speed, without dropping frames. MAN what a dream. Now for Max.

I set the cuda - GPUs for 3DS MAX in NVIDIA Control Panel. Is there a setting in Max to change rendering from CPU to GPU?

you can hard set it in nvidia control panel to use GPU

You can also tell max in the world settings > eg. open massfx toolbar, go options > engine > hardware accelleration

Hardware acceleration is grayed out. I must not have the cuda - GPUs on the right dropdown selection from the Control Panel

Sorry I should have asked you what version of max just assumed it was 2017. If you are using anything below 2014 you will need to install the physx drivers for 3ds max. Definately dont do this when you upgrade to 2014 as it messes with the inbuilt one

Thanks for the updates, I'm looking to upgrade too. I was looking into the 1080. RB Cameron
