Photometric Sun?
show user profile  LongTimeNoSee
The Sunlight is really only good for actual time of day and model orientation, i.e. architectural rendering.

For more creative rendering I can't see any reason to use anything other than the Target Direct.

Does anyone know of any Photometric lights or setting that can be used like a Target Direct?

I barely use lights any more. Nearly all my renders use either emissive light cards or an HDR.

I tend to use exclusively HDR as a single light source, dome light with hdri, rotate the dome in the horizontal and vertical, enhance shadows using Inverse Gamma...or whatever the equivalent is if you're not using Vray.
