Skin Realflow Mesh ?
show user profile  FX
I have a little doodle I did in Realflow, I thought it would be relatively easy to throw a particle skinner on this and have the skin peel off, but no joy, everything I try fails and Max just barfs out.

Cloth, mcloth go tits up too.

I'm assuming it's down to the vertex behaviour of the Realflow mesh.

Any suggestions how I could achieve the effect ?

Not quite clear what the problem is but I'll give it a go.
Fluids like that are typically meshed per frame, if you just skinned it to the original mesh you'd get crazy stretching and such..
Use the Realflow mesher and export all meshes per frame and import to max.

Yeah that's the issue, verts change on each frame, so I can't see how It would work.

I'm just going to snapshot the first frame and use a cloth sim for the peel, then melt afterwards. I'm tired of looking at this thing already, simming is worse than rendering :/

If I get another popping particle at frame 200 of a 240 sim I'm going to jump through my monitor.

Freezing and only using the first frame makes the entire Realflow procedure superfluous no?
You could use the original particles pre-meshing for skinning then...assuming the count is constant..should be a setting for that.
But still, skinning simmed particles to a mesh would create a mess, unless that original mesh is broken apart appropriately.

I'd probably use the realflow sim (meshed) for the flesh, and make a second mesh for the skin, (cloth sim, pre-fractured to peel nicely), using the RF simulation as a collider.

That's what I was doing, using the RF as a cloth collider was making the skin mesh freak out.

Superfluous? peels then it melts.

Scale....cloth scale....I haven't touched cloth in a while...I totally forgot about scale. :/ I just scaled the scene up and boom, cloth is behaving itself.

I'll re-try all the methods again and see what happens.

sigh ...scale

4 fucking hours...scale

...and popping particles...

First test, a long way to go, no shader work, the skin jiggles a bit but doesn't look too bad with the continuous dribbling, needs more defined tears and not to stick to the bottom of the mesh, I only added a single tear at the top of the second R...may throw some veins in there for effect :)

Wasted half a day trailing and erroring in completely the wrong direction :/

I have some experiments that might actually be of interest to you here:
Done in Houdini though.

I'm losing the will to live working with mCloth...Houdini would be overkill for this.

I managed to get a reasonable result, other than it looks like ice cream, skin isn't interacting with the fluid, and the scene really needs up scaling and re-simming to make the liquid more dense and clingy, more surface tension, the clients gone awol so I doubt I'll be improving it.

Wee, I didn't really tweak it much, lost patience with the whole thing tbh.

Looks like a total waste if time anyway, contest entry, no response from the client, fee crap enough to only warrant a couple of hours work.
