head gasket maybe.
strip down rebuild is a fun job. I got as far as taking the head off & removing the gasket on my old man's volvo many years back then realised I fucking hate mechanics so gave it to a shop to put back together & have never touched an engine since.

Different engine going in anyway so i guess nothing to worry about..
I did the radiator on our family DD the other week ( Renault Grand Scenic ), and it was enough of a pain in the a*** to remind me that:
Working on cars is good fun, always a learning process, etc. BUT - as long as it isn`t your daily driver - just pay someone to do it. Keep tinkering to projects only, be sensible :)
GOT SICK OF OLD SIG HAVE AT THIS NEW ONE

yea, probably the head gasket. I actually do have a new headgasket, a local guy is buying the motor from me, so I'll give him all my spare gaskets and such. I was smelling a little bit of sweet smell every now and then out the exhaust, so I suspected the headgasket (or worst case, cracked block). He's aware of the condition of the motor. :-)
Doesn't matter though :-) I'll just flush the radiator through, the radiator is fine, I'll be reusing it with the diesel engine.
I love working on these jeeps, it's fun! Just have to tell my self to only work on one at a time, so I can still drive to work ;-) haha The willys has been my daily driver for about 8 months, I'll switch back to driving the black jeep for a while until the willys is ready again.
While I'm doing the motor swap, I'm going to upgrade the brakes a little bit (dual master cylinder, and possibly discs up front) and replace a few of the steering parts (not really upgrading, just replacing) to get a bit of the slop out of the steering. And I'm going to rewire everything. That'll be about.... 15 wires. haha ;-)
They are cheap, easy to work on, and fun to drive. Hard to beat that :-D
