Vray Displace ?

I have an object using vr displace modifier.

Background is 50% grey, white is emboss, black is deboss, i thought this was how it was done.

How do I stop the 50% grey affecting the model ? Mask ? Possible?...basically make the background neutral to displacement.

Set the Texture Boundaries to -1 and 1 rather then 0 and 1?

Didn't work for me, I lost patience and just modelled it, displace isn't that good for detailed close ups on a smooth metal surface.

You could use water level option for that.

Yeah, black is 0.

There's ways to do this, but the default is no displacement = 0,0,0

Cheers guys, I think I'm just growing tired of the complexity of 3D work in general, it's not a good feeling...counter patience wears thin too quickly these days.
