| Yet Another Battlemech - W.I.P. |
NLGFX_ger |
Another personal projects (apart from the challenge of getting those bullets in the other thread right ;) )
So therefore I have modelled this mech the last 1,5 days... nothing special, but I like big machines and guns lol.
wanna improve my skills in: lighting, materials, rigging and effects (will try fume fx on this one). I intend to use that knowledge in a little animation with this mech :) after I have finished modelling and texturing it, I will get back to learning how to get the vray lighting and materials correct... and apply that to this mech ;)
materials and lighting in these pics of course just temp... just to have anything there ;)
stay tuned...
sorry for the large pics, but otherwise you wouldnt see some of the detail...

Not bad for a start, nice detail and everything, one critique though is with the hydraulics in the foot, they look sort of weak, and the tin plating should get reinforced, it looks like it could be punctured with a stiletto, also, all the wires/hoses should be as invisible (guarded) as possible, and maybe add more thickness.
keep it up..

Looks good, I would agree with albongino about the amour, also the camo paint needs to be mat and non reflective at all. Apart from that its really good.

The main body/house looks too much like modern plastic design to me, like its one large cast part, and not made from individual parts.
Apart from that its a very nice looking mech, very nice weapon layout =)
Give him the Maulk Josh!!

thx for the feedback :)
yeah, agreed on the feet and the armour.... I will make that look more sturdy. However, I dont wanna have it look too blocky like on these traditional mechwarrior type mechs - rather a bit technical and open... combined with some organic shapes...
well, the main body isnt done yet :) on the front/lower part you can see that I have already extruded some faces. I intend to mount some armour plates there to make it look less in one piece ;) what you see there is rather the base shape that is below all of it :)
thx guys =)

I think this is pretty great. I am curious, did you design every little detail first on paper or did you have this all in your head? I am artistic but not the slightest bit mechanical so stuff like this blows me away, with the amount of technical detail in it. Good job.

well, as I am somewhat of a drawing retard, it was all in my head...
thx :))

i like this, it has promise.
I'm wondering about the back toes, nice design but at the moment they are just a ball and socket.
Maybe have some stronger sonnection? how would they flex? dampers maybe.
I've been looking at doing a new mech for a while and have been studying lots of ref for mechanical details. To see the thing as 'real' the parts need to look like they work.
Agree about protecting your hoses, not that games workshop designs ever did that.
good start, add more detail and look at some reference.
EDIT have a look at your unwraps as well, when you add the final mats

how bout this? ;)
jesus... them white pixels in the highlight/reflections piss me off... arggl. havent looked too far into vray materials for now but will take care of that later, when everything is textured...

nice concept on the ankles, but I think there's no way those joint balls could hold all that weight...

well, as you can see, they do!!! haha :D lol...
well, any ideas? ;) maybe get rid of them and make a "normal" joint? like the others? the idea behind it was that the backtoes can move up and down as well as sideways... hmm

The underside of the cockpit is bothering me a little at the moment. Perhaps it would be better made from seperate pieces. Otherwise, great work. New textures look quality.

well, dont wanna add more armour plates as it might look a bit overloaded BUT maybe I can do something via texture... to make it look less made out of one piece :)
