It's not "in" a toolbar, just positioned "over" one that I filled with blank spaces.

After upgrading to 4k monitor things got a bit small:

I should probably switch to windows 10. Heard it's scaling works a lot better.

Not really, it is a bit better at scaling text in normal windows applications.
as far as I can tell, applications like Max, Blender and Photoshop, need to be scaled in the actual application, since they will ignore windows font sizes.

I am running windows 10 with a 4k monitor, and while it gives a lot of working room in Max, the text and buttons are just too damn small by default.
Sort of think the 4k monitor was a mistake. 1440p is probably better for most things.

Timons right, it should be at fixed at application level, 2015 and 2016 *should* get updates, but as usual AD prefer to ignore the issue in favour of user hacks, they have been fully aware of it since Max 2015, the UI needs revamping in both 15 & 16...and I can't see these greed merchants addressing it anytime soon.

AFAIK, the only way to get scaling 'semi' working in Max 2016 is to switch to windows 10 and use a manifest hack, which just up-scales the text making it blurry.

Autodesk + Known Issue = Don't hold your breath.

Shame it doesn't work tho', as usual it's a half assed bug fest of issues with broken dialogues, intermittent and quirky behaviour.

Autodesk support the latest 3 versions of Max? ...my arse they do.

I use 2009 for 90 percent of my fiddling, and 2013 student for high end light tweaking with nvidia mental ray, both standard UI, but super-streamlined hotkey usage.
