taking a break from car modeling for a couple of weeks.

First attempt at archViz. I'm doing a short animation taking stylistic inspiration from the short, 3rd and the 7th. Started this yesterday and want to get it done in 15 days now that I'm out of school and have some time (but in reality it will be more like 25 days probably).

Goals- Switch to LWF; Really push what I can do with materials; Incorporate zBrush to sculpt a few pieces; Most of all, learn how to properly incorporate Render Elements; Make a very clean and overall empty feel with the short.

All designs are original (drew up some crummy blueprints, but this idea has been poking around in my head for a while. Below are photos-

In this photo I am playing around what I want to do with the lighting. I wanted to have the natural lighting be coolish blue and have the windows pushing a warmer light that will be diffused by curtains.

-

This is the scene so far-

Blue Print-

Wish me luck!

Just a little update. I made some curtains that are diffusing the light that is coming from inside of the structure. I need to play around with the material of the wood.

Concrete texture is bunk and I'll be working on that for a while today. Not how I want it to look at all (I think I want concrete for the walls. That's what I figured in the beginning of this, but that may change depending how it looks).

Cheers and CC (so far I also see some issues with the light bleeding through, sort of lame. I also don't know if I like the roof supports, they look sort of busy)

Thanks for all the replies! Had some time to work on this thing today and made some progress.. To test render times I did a higher quality render with some DOF. Looks sweet, but took far to long.

Hmm. I have come to the conclusion that I have no clue what I am doing, but I like the tree!

Things that need to be changed that I plan on changing-

-Tweaking all the materials
-Replacing water so it doesn't look like turds
-Putting rake designs in the sand as well as making the sand look more like... sand
-Replacing the clouds with actual video of clouds
-Changing the lighting around so it looks more dramatic and less flat
-Revising my little shitty box yard lights
-I also need to make a concrete door

Anything else that sticks out like a sore thumb besides the general stuff?

A "Zen Garden" is actually a little sand pit with a rake and some stones which you are meant to play with to sort out your chi. Fun fact for the day for ya!

Lol. Yeah, I know what a zen garden is. Probably should of more correctly named the thread "Patio, Zen Garden knock off type thing" but I felt that title was just too long.

The idea was to make a nice patio area to a house. A place to go and chill, read a book, take a nap, something relaxing in a Zen Garden theme I suppose.

I'll ad some Coy to the water, haha.

Nice project so far :) good luck with it. What render engine are you using? Might be an idea to do your DOF in post, so a ZDepth pass would be advisable.

Using vray. I was thinking about doing the pass in post (that's what I've been doing so far whenever I needed DOF), but either I'm doing something wrong or something because when I use the zdepth layer for dof I can't really control what is in focus and what isn't.

It seems like I can only heighten or lessen the strength the the DOF, but can't control the focus area. Probably am doing something wrong though, haha.

Yeah, I have the same trouble with Zdepth. I think it's something to do with the focal point of the camera (assuming you're not using a Free Camera).

Okay, it's good to know I'm not alone. If anyone has a fix for this, please let us know. It's so much faster rendering Zdepth pass over embedding the DOF in the beauty pass.

Cheers! Hopefully this will allow me to use zdepth! Oh yeah, another render-
