Another update. Just tweaking the textures. I have found that this is going to be good practice, but I don't think it has enough going on to make for an actual showcase project. I'll keep on trying to push it further after I workout some of the textures and add some more detail.
Oh yeah, the sky/clouds suck, I know it. I was playing with vray fog for clouds, but if I push this to a final showcase project I am going to be using some hd video for the clouds with a light map for the shadows.

cheers.

water is pretty horrible :)
Low curb next to the light fixture to the right.. what is it made of? Comes in a single piece?
You should model the wood boards. The small pieces towards the edge are an eye sore.
Your previous renders were much better. Tree in the center doesn't look good as far as composition goes.
Nice work :)

I like the colour of the water especially near the bottom right hand side but maybe the surface needs smaller ripples and more of them. Just thinking, if you want more interest in the pic, how about some goldfish. Also create a Japanese print design on the paper walls.

Good crits folks.
The boards are something that I was thinking I would model in. I'm just trying to figure out a crafty way of doing so. Usually I do everything long hand in 3ds max, but I want to start thinking smarter, not working harder.
Any suggestions on how to model the boards besides the obvious plank by plank (I'm not lazy, I'm trying to be more efficient)?
I have the base mesh, so I suppose I could try boolean.

@del3d- Low curb for the fixture? Here is how I have that set up.. 4 vray plane lights and then a vray light material to make the thing look like it's glowing

edit: Also those are supposed to be curtains, not paper walls. Having issues with making them look like curtains I suppose.
@herfs1- Will edit the water
Will change position of the tree. Thanks for the replies.

This sript might be fun for the floor boards.
I really like the concept, but the lighting looks flat and overcast, which doesn't match the sky, and I think that your water should be almost perfectly still, to get waves like that it would have to be quite windy.

Thanks Nik. I'm going to look into that right now. I attempted to boolean, but it looks like a pain to clean up (what's new).
I have a few hours to dink with this, this morning because I screwed up my time zones (pacific time is 2 hours behind, not ahead of central time).
So hear I am, trying to log into that autodesk conference thing 2 hours early for 15 minutes feeling like an idiot after I figured out why it wasn't taking.
Progress on the floor soon.

I was asking about the black curb you have between the sand and water. It doesn't show any joints and I can't tell the material. Looks cgish.
Floor boards? It shouldn't take more than a few minutes. Use no more than two directions, always perpendicular to the water. Continue one of the arrays into the corner area. Edit poly all boards. Draw some 2d shapes in the top view and quick slice the areas at the round inside corner and diagonal edge. I think that should do the work :)
